It might take a moment to realize just how often rhyming and repeating words helps us recall certain things or phrases that come in handy, such as “I before E, except after C,” or “Righty tighty, lefty loosey.” Even in cases without thinking, we can be persuaded by the rhyming of commercial jingles or slogans, perhaps the chants of a protest, and especially catchy choruses that get stuck in our heads.
But along the lines of nursery rhymes and lullabies, there were many ways this dynamic left an indelible impression on us at a very young age, through colorful books with memorable titles, cartoons that brought them to life, and holiday specials that made them tradition.
