Carlsbad, Calif. — February 18, 2020 — Usaopoly, also known as The Op, a leading publisher and manufacturer of board games and puzzles, and RUBIK’S Brand Ltd. have aligned to create licensed versions of the classic 3×3 Rubik’s Cube®, a toy celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
Invented in 1974 by Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture Ernő Rubik, this will be one of the newest twists and turns the 3D color-matching puzzle cube will see in its decades-long legacy. “Since the 1980’s, Rubik’s has inspired a worldwide fan base, national competitions, and made its mark on modern television and movies,” says Maggie Matthews, The Op VP of Licensing. “We’re looking forward to fitting the famous Cube — one of the best-selling toys of all time – in its natural place amongst fan-favorite pop culture properties.”
While these licensed versions of the classic 3×3 Rubik’s Cube will still be played and solved in its traditional manner, the Cube’s six sides will now feature moments and characters from each respective license. In place of the core colors that players are used to coordinating, fans will have their hands on a way to enjoy their favorite visuals and beat personal solving time records.

The Op will introduce a variety of pop culture Cubes throughout 2020. The first cubes will release into the North American specialty stores late summer with a price tag of $14.99 MSRP.
